The Contradictory Lives of Jan Vermeer

Speaking of genius artists and their contradictory lives, suddenly reminds me of Jan Vermeer. Vermeer was known for his pictures of persons, mostly women in solitary situation. He often depicts a woman alone and absorbs in what she is doing. Looking at his paintings feel so serene, so peaceful, so calm. I think he really knew what solitary meant, as if he understood the joy of being alone without having to feel lonely. And yet he had 11 children! Eleven! What a chaotic household he must have had! What noise! Well maybe it was the reason he painted serenity so beautifully.
